Letters Church re-design (letter)I endorse the recent letters to the Editor regarding modernist church re-design and "renovations". Luckily (or providentially), St Patrick's Church at Church Hill in the city was protected from the "renovators" by a heritage order. So instead of being gutted into a cold kennel the church has retained all its traditional Catholic beauty and icons that provide a warm, uplifting sanctuary from the concrete and glass silos for all us city workers. These trendoids and those seeking to fete them remind me of St Paul's letter to Timothy: "The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they will listen with itching ears to false prophets. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables" (2 Timothy 4:3-4). MICHAEL BARRY Reprinted from AD2000 Vol 15 No 9 (October 2002), p. 14 |
