Reflection: Devotion to God through the Angelus and Rosary - Fr Fabian Duggan OSB

Even to the casual observer it should be evident that some sections of the media are taking every opportunity to attack the leaders of the Catholic Church, especially our Holy Father and our bishops. These leaders are our God-appointed shepherds and we are the sheep to whom they minister.

I have always found these shepherds to have been most diligent and loving in caring for the flock entrusted to them by the Lord. I find it ironic that the roles are now somewhat reversed and that we are called upon to show our leaders the love, care and support they now urgently need.

In fact it is not at all surprising that our Church leaders are being attacked, for this has been the case through the entire history of the Church. At the Last Supper Jesus himself predicted that it would be so: "If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first. If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: 'No slave is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you too ... (Jn 15: 18- 20).

To all readers of AD2000 I make an earnest appeal that you keep in your prayers our Holy Father the Pope and all our bishops. Today they certainly need our support and encouragement.
