Regarding your article in the Easter issue about some well-known dissenters complaining about Cardinal Pell's stance on "freedom of concience", it is worth noting that "three senior prelates" in the United States (Culture & Cosmos, vol 3, No 332, 15 March 2006) have recently responded to Catholic Democrats in Congress on the matter as follows:

"It is essential to remember that conscience must be consistent with fundamental moral principles. As members of the Church, all Catholics are obliged to shape our consciences in accord with the moral teaching of the Church."
