Books Catholic Family Catechism: 2004 Disciples Edition with 50 Questions and AnswersCATHOLIC FAMILY CATECHISM: (Newman Publications, 2004, 129pp, $5 00 + postage. Available from PO Box 697, Merrylands, NSW 2160, (02) 9637 9406) It's about time that such a handy resource as the present Catholic Family Catechism was produced. In 50 short questions and answers, Fr Jim Tierney, catechist extraordinaire, has put on paper what we have been waiting for. A simple breakdown - in 50 steps - of the four basic slabs of the Catechism; Creed, Sacraments, Commandments and Prayer into a user- friendly format for one and all. Be it the priest with a young couple who have a child needing to be baptised, a teacher wanting to prepare a religion lesson, a candidate for sacramental preparation, or just a keen convert, this concise text is a must. In a single glance of an eye, two pages contain a basic theme of the Catholic Catechism. Crammed into these pages are clear doctrinal points, key Bible quotes, numerous citations from Scripture, Church Tradition, some Fathers, practical devotionary tips, art work, pictures and the odd chart or quiz question. This is a marvellous resource for any catechist - it's practical and pithy. Well done Father Tierney! Rev Dr Peter Murphy is parish priest, All Saints Church, Tumbarumba, Wagga Wagga Diocese.
