Letters Accuracy (letter)I would like to respond to a letter titled "Accuracy" by Fr John Crothers in the June edition of AD2000. As we all know, God, as a pure Spirit, is neither male nor female. But I do not agree with the argument that God cannot be infinite unless he has a feminine aspect. As the letter states, "there would be something lacking, something that God is not, that is, the feminine aspect." The reason I object is that if God were female He would need a companion to create life, hence such a statement tends to deny God's nature as the Creator of all being. Christ Himself calls God - as a source of all life - "Father", which I believe we should all accept in faith. As the Breviary says, "Faith believes nor questions how." It is not for us to question what God has revealed. Fr Austin Kenny CP Reprinted from AD2000 Vol 15 No 6 (July 2002), p. 15 |
