On 16 June 2007 my beloved husband Brian J. Mulligan passed away after a very long illness.

For many years he wrote for various newspapers and periodicals, including as a diocesan correspondent for the New Zealand Tablet, based in Dunedin.

I found the following poem of his recently. It is topical, given that Our Lady's birthday occurs on 8 September.

Keep up your great work.

'Mary's Birthday'

Virgin Mary, September the 8th
Is your special day.
The world will offer you
A Rosary bouquet.

* * *

You are our beacon in the darkness
The one who lights our way.
You'll never abandon us
Even when we stray.

* * *

A mother who has experienced
Every pain,
And for the sake of your children
You will do it all again.

Brian Joseph Mulligan
(Brisbane, Qld).
