I wish to congratulate Michael Ryan (September AD2000) for his carefully presented and well balanced article on his experience of a recent First Holy Communion. It was rather like my own experience.

My fear is that the contagion may be spreading for I recently attended a First Holy Communion where the noise level was appalling, being more like a country and western gathering than the rock concert atmosphere Michael Ryan referred to in his letter.

To the priest's credit he restrained people from taking photos during Communion by saying that they could purchase copies of the video that was being made. However, what Father himself said seemed to have little connection with First Communion or the Eucharist, despite this being the year of the Eucharist.
