Reflection: Archbishop Hart: Pope John Paul II and the Year of the Eucharist - Archbishop Denis Hart

Watching American TV via satellite, I've taken an interest in a double murder trial of a California man, Scott Peterson, who was charged with the murder of his wife, Laci and their unborn son, Conner (8 months in the womb).

Being tried for killing an unborn child is one of those knicker-knot news items, putting the pro-abortion lobby in a dither. They were reluctant to man the barricades because of the magnitude of this heinous crime, which has sickened much of America.

What both interested and annoyed me was the manner in which Channel 10 in Australia misreported Scott Peterson's conviction.

Said Channel 10's reporter, somewhat breathlessly and with a straight face, "A California man has been convicted of murdering his wife and 'mutilating' his unborn son".

Nonsense! Peterson was convicted of murdering his wife in the first degree and murdering his son in the second degree.

Isn't it tragic that a "doctor" in an abortion clinic can kill a baby of eight months gestation and be paid handsomely for it.
