Letters Small Catechisms available (letter)In reference to Fr Duggan's letter (June AD2000) regarding Catholic catechisms, I would like to point out that there are several small catechisms currently available. A brand new one prepared by Cardinal Ratzinger and Cardinal Schönborn has just been launched in Italy and is selling like hot cakes even in petrol stations. Anything written by our present Holy Father has a quick sale in Italy. Translations will follow. In the Philippines, a small catechism published by the Daughters of St Paul is being used, while the Congregation of the Sons of Holy Mary Immaculate of Paranaque, Manila, has published My First Catechism (1996), illustrated on art paper. In the same series, they have published My First Bible, My First History of the Catholic Church, My First Rosary, My First Way of the Cross, A Prayer Book and My First Lives of the Saints (Sons of Holy Mary Immaculate, Isabella De Rosis St, Multinational Village, 1700 Paranaque, M. Manila, Philippines, tel + 827 5506). There is even a Catechism of the Catholic Church in Chinese produced by the Chinese Catholic Bishops' Conference (1995) which has been translated into English by the late Fr Francis Conn SJ. Finally, I Believe: A Little Catholic Catechism by Aid to the Church in Need was reprinted in 2004. This is a magnificent little book of 205 pages, illustrated and ideal for Australia. It is available from Aid to the Church in Need, PO Box, 6245, Blacktown DC, NSW 2148, tel/fax (02) 9679-1929. FR EDWARD P. EVANS Reprinted from AD2000 Vol 18 No 7 (August 2005), p. 16 |
