Some six months ago I invested in a 2.4 metre satellite dish and a receiver box in order to tune into Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). All up the installation cost was $1,800 and there are no ongoing charges such as apply to cable TV services. This has proved to be the very best $1,800 I have ever spent.

Thanks to modern communications technology, reception is very good. EWTN transmits high quality programs, both content-wise and technically, 24 hours a day, with regular features covering evangelisation, Scripture, theology, apologetics, marriage and family, Catholic writers, sacred music and lives of the saints.

The Mass, Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet are broadcast daily while a good current affairs program covers Vatican and Church-related news the world over. EWTN also provides attractive programs for teens and young children.

Special programming provides state-of-the-art coverage of the big events from Rome and elsewhere, such as canonisations, World Youth Days and the Holy Father's overseas visits.

Twenty years after its inception, EWTN is a global network reaching most of the earth via satellite and an increasing portion of it via cable.

Further information is available on the EWTN website. I can be contacted on (02) 6251-3950.
