My response to the "forgotten teachings" from Archbishop Pell, who spoke at the Synod of Bishops in Rome, and the reaction of Father John Speekman (November AD2000) is full agreement.

As a housewife and mother of five children and their families, I am sad about the watering down of the Ten Commandments, including the Third - to keep holy the Lord's Day - which requires attending Mass on Sundays.

The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2181).

It is wrong that students of Catholic secondary schools are allowed to think they are entitled to receive the Lord's Body at school Masses, regardless of their observation of the Sunday obligation.

I conclude with a prayer of intercession: "Let us pray for all lapsed Catholics that they may return to the Church, and find peace in their hearts."
