Dr Francis Beckwith (July AD2000) remarked on 'the lack of repository preaching in Catholic parishes' as compared to the evangelical Protestants.
Rome, aware of this deficiency, and the consequent impact on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, released the document Redemptionis Sacramentum in 2004 to give priests wider scope in 'preaching on the mysteries of the Faith and the norms of Christian life.'
This action was necessary because for 30 years the liturgists have firmly shackled priests to limpid gospel commentary. The result has been that few Catholics in Australia under 40 years of age have ever had the full Good News of Salvation as preached by Christ on His earthly mission.
There can be no effective evangelisation without a call to repentance. For the lack of it we must blame the liturgists, not the preachers.
