Priestless parishes and a lack of vocations to the priesthood seem to be a regular topic in AD2000. For my family and myself this is not a problem. Thanks to the courage, foresight and faith of Bishop William Brennan of Wagga Wagga, NSW.
What a great joy it is to go to the ordination of young men to the priesthood each year. This year alone, four men are due to be ordained to the priesthood and five to the diaconate.
Why the number for such a small diocese? John Vianney Seminary is orthodox. The professors who teach there are men who have a deep love of the Church and work to pass on to the seminarians all the beauties and truths of the Church. Christ said, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into the vineyard." Our task is simple - prayer. Christ gives the vocations; all we need to do is pray.
Vianney College also offers to trainee teachers courses in the Catechism, Introduction to the Bible and Catechetics. These courses are all recognised by the nearby Charles Sturt University and serve as credits for its Bachelor of Education degree.
