Ordinations in Perth, W.A. (letter)

Fred Preshaw

There are probably a number of reasons why 15 men were ordained to the priesthood in the Perth Archdiocese in 2000, while other dioceses have difficulty obtaining any vocations. One reason would have to be the prayers offered by the laity for priests and seminarians.

Many of the laity pray for priests on a regular basis. Their prayers often follow a particular format said to have been requested by Our Lady when giving special messages, called Locutions, to a Fr Gobbi from Milan between 1973 and 1997. These Locutions are generally referred to as the Cenacle Prayers of the Marian Movement of Priests.

A Cenacle lasts about 40 minutes and people come together weekly to pray either in a church or a private home. (Information on the Marian Movement of Priests can be obtained from the Marian Centre, PO Box 636, Castle Hill, NSW, 2154 or PO Box 60, Hillarys, WA, 6025.)

Other exercises undertaken by laity include fasting on bread and water on Fridays and Wednesdays, daily Rosary and Mass, as well as frequent confession. Many churches have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for an hour or more each week.

People who come together only to talk about priestless parishes, are doing nothing to solve the real problem. Their time would be better spent in prayer, rather than talk.

The Bible reminds us: "The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so pray ...".

Incidentally, the recently ordained Perth priests all show great devotion to Our Lady.
