I refer to the article written by Fr Dennis W. Byrnes in the August AD2000.
I have not heard or read a more beautiful and sincere explanation of the state of celibacy of the priest. To use one of his quotes: "The universal goal of personal and spiritual formation is self-transcendence: 'If a person wishes to be My disciple, he must deny his very self, take up his cross and follow Me'. He must transcend himself and rise above his own wants, needs and desires."
As in fact we are all called to do.
