Celibacy (letter)

Kim Albertini

John Young's article on celibacy being superior to marriage beckons the thought as to why none of this is mentioned in the new Catechism of the Catholic Church. There is talk of the two reinforcing each other but as far as superiority goes it mentions nothing.

As far as Trent or Pius XII go was there any solemn definition on the matter with an extraordinary note of infallibility? Are we to treat this on the same level as the Trinity, Immaculate Conception or the Eucharist? As far as the sensus fidei goes, I don't see practising Catholics (most of whom are married) holding up to this belief especially since Peter our first Pope was married.
