'The Passion' (letter)

The comment by your reviewer of The Passion, that Mel Gibson "goes overboard" with the physical sufferings of Christ, reminds me of the initial reaction of Evan Williams, film critic of The Australian.

Williams suggested that if he were to complain to Gibson that the portrayal of the scourging and crucifixion was too painfully protracted, Gibson might well have replied, "That is probably what Our Lord felt."

The film is not easy to sit through, but it admirably achieves its purpose which was, as Mel Gibson said, "to make people think more deeply".
